Congressional Spending

Just Say No To Earmarks

I've never been a big fan of Senator McCain, Republican from Arizona. I've always felt he cared more for media attention than for the principles he professes to believe in. But if he and Tom Coburn, a Republican senator from Oklahoma, can succeed with this plan, our government will be much better off.

Earmarks are little additions to spending bills that every member of Congress can try to attach to an omnibus spending bill like the Highway and Transportation bill passed each year. Each member of congress just adds a little piece, a couple million here and there, that are small compared to the total spending, but it all adds up. There is no reason that these handouts should be allowed.
